Ok, I can go to a web page and save an animated gif (right click on it, then save as)
If I try to open the animated GIF in the image viewer or set it as the desktop background, it will not animate.
If I open it in IE7, it is animated - so I know the file is saved correctly.
Is this something that is going to be fixed / changed ? Or is there a way to enable it?
Thanks Chris

Right now the behavior of animated gif files falls under "by design." I hope that is changed in future Vista builds.

We will be making a change for RC1 which will open GIF files in Internet Explorer by default. IE will display and animate them correctly.

Thanks for the response. Is there any reason that Image Viewer no longer will display them animated? Also, I know I was able to use animated gifs as backgrounds, and that no longer works either. Is there a security reason for that?
Thanks, Chris

AFAICT a design decision has been made to NOT support GIF animation in Photo Gallery and the new Image Viewer. The topic has been debated quite intensely between other beta testers and Microsoft, but I doubt that it is going to change.
